I am the proud daughter of two Haitian parents. My mother



Marie Michelle Saturne was born in Port-au-Prince, the



capital of Haiti. My father Selondieu Clervil was born in



Gonaive. Gonaive is a small town located not to far from \



Port-au-Prince. Haiti was the first black country to gain



it's independence on January 1st, 1804. It is also the



second independent nation in the Western Hemisphere. I



love my native country's languages (which is Creole and



French), traditons (drinking soup on New Years' Eve to



celebrate our country's independence), and wonderful



historical background. I am also a native-born American.



Although at times there is conflict between Haitian customs



and American tradition, I embrace both my ethnic



backgrounds.
